How do i remove the spout from my shower, it is reallly old and im not sure how it is attached to the pipe ins?

i want to remove the spout from my shower. It is the kind that has the LIFT handle to divert the water so the shower goes on. I dont know what kind of style it is. I think it maybe just screwed on but i really dont know, so how can i find out how i should remove it without breaking something. Its leaking water when i lift it so i want to change it. thank you
